Houman Salem New Advisor at Roma Costume

by Luis Paredes

January 14, 2010

Roma Costume is getting help from someone with a track record of turning a great company into a GREAT company – Houman Salem.

Salem is stepping in as an advisor at Roma Costumes.

"I’m here to grow this business and make Roma the recognized leader in this Industry," said Salem. "I’m overhauling all aspects of sales, marketing and logistics – all from an operational stand point."

His help, he said, will also allow the company's president, Sam Fard to focus on what he does best – designing costumes.

"Sam is a very creative person and I want to empower him to be creative!" said Salem. "Here’s an example. His Queen of Hearts Costume at a recent show was a game changer in this Industry. It showed what you could do with creativity and quality materials. People are sick of the cheap stuff. I want to help Sam develop 25 of these game changers every year."

To do so, Salem is focusing on five areas of Roma’s business.

"The first thing we’re going to do is a branding overhaul," he said. "We’ll be developing a cohesive offering for all of the things Roma offers."

He’ll also help revamp the companies packaging as well.

He noted that most of his changes might not take into effect until the later part of 2010.

Secondly, Salem will tackle the company’s shipping. "Although, this company has one of the best shipping track records. Nine out of 10 customers say it’s the best in the Industry," he noted. "So, most of what I’m going to be doing is preparation for a larger volume of sales."

"I feel right at home here at Roma. I'm in my element and want to help Roma grow into a huge contender. I'd much rather do that than keep a large company dominant," said Salem. "Honestly, this kind of challenge is more thrilling and fulfilling for me."

Salem will also look at developing effective sales strategies for Roma. "I want to develop incentives and empower reps to help them make money with Roma," he explained.

Using Social Media sites like Facebook will also be part of Salem’s strategy for Roma taking a page from his own playbook when he created buzz around his boutique lingerie store, Chelsea Manor.

And lastly, Salem will focus on revamping Roma’s website. "We’re going to overhaul the website to make more user friendly and facilitate sales. It won’t be overkill, but rich in features," he explained.

Salem noted that he will continue running Chelsea Manor while he works as an advisor at the company.

"I feel right at home here at Roma. I'm in my element and want to help Roma grow into a huge contender. I'd much rather do that than keep a large company dominant," said Salem. "Honestly, this kind of challenge is more thrilling and fulfilling for me."
